Stallion Tender Conditions

How to complete your tender

Complete the tender form nominating the stallion and tender price before lodging it with the CQTBA by 5pm on Thursday 31 July 2008. (note all tenders must be inclusive of GST).

Tender Conditions

1. Acceptance of any tender shall be at the sole discretion of the CQTBA, and the highest or any tender shall not necessarily be the tender accepted by the CQTBA.

2. In general, the minimum tender shall be $880 (including GST) or a third of the service fee set out on the front pages of these conditions. The following specific minimum tenders apply Another Warrior ($2200), Fiery Match ($2000), Formlahaut ($3300), Hemingway ($2000), Pembroke ($3300) and Your Tent or Mine ($4400).

3. When a tender is accepted by the CQTBA, payment shall be made by:

i) A security deposit of $250 or 30 per cent of the tender price, whichever is the higher, within seven days of acceptance of the tender; and

ii) The remainder of the tender price, prior to the mare departing from the stud on which the stallion is located, or within seven days of obtaining a successful 45 day pregnancy test, whichever is the earlier.

4. Should the successful tenderer fail to pay the security deposit within the required time, the CQTBA reserves the right to award the service to another tenderer.

5. The successful tenderer shall correctly identify the mare to be served, and the stud owner shall not be responsible for any problem arising from the delivery of the wrong mare. At the time of the mare's delivery, the successful tenderer shall ensure the mare is accompanied by the relevant Document of Description or Identification Card.

6. The mare, the name of which shall be advised to the CQTBA, shall be free of any contagious disease, and in good health and condition, and eligible for entry in the Australian Thoroughbred Stud Book.

7. The successful tenderer shall comply with reasonable delivery conditions imposed by the stud.

8. While the stud will take all reasonable steps to care for the mare, neither the CQTBA, nor the stud accept any further responsibility for any accident, death, disease or injury to the mare during the time she is on the stud property.

9. The successful tenderer authorises the stud to engage a veterinary surgeon at the successful tenderer's expense to perform any service or treatment as the stud owner or his duly authorised representative, in the exercise of his absolute discretion, considers necessary and reasonable.

10. The successful tenderer shall pay the stud's reasonable agistment, foaling, transport and other costs within 30 days of receipt of the invoice. The successful tenderer shall also pay any veterinary surgeon's account for any service or treatment performed on his mare directly to the veterinary surgeon.

11. The successful tenderer shall pay any outstanding fees to the stud or veterinary surgeon, and the total amount of the tender price prior to the departure of the mare from the stud.

12. No live foal guarantees or free return entitlements are provided under this stallion tender. Some studs may grant these rights, but they need to be negotiated separately with the stud and do not form part of this contract.

13. Should the stallion die or become unfit for service, the stud will make its best endeavour to replace the stallion, but should that not be possible, then this contract shall cease to have any effect and any deposit paid by the successful tender shall be repaid by the CQTBA.

14. Should the mare die or become unfit to breed, the successful tenderer may replace the mare, but should that not be possible, then this contract shall cease to have any effect, except that the successful tenderer shall pay the stud's reasonable agistment, foaling, transport and other costs and any veterinary expenses.

15. This stallion tender will be completed on a confidential basis and neither the tenderer, nor the CQTBA, will discuss or disclose details of any tender with any other person or organisation. However, the CQTBA will be able to disclose the amount of the successful tender to each stallion owner together with the name and address of those lodging a tender for a service from their stallion.

Our Primary Fundraiser

Every year our association conducts a Stallion Tender as our primary fundraiser. Studmasters representing some of the countries prominate sires donate a service to one or more of the Stallions standing at their Stud.

The Stallion Tender is advertised widely and interested breeders are encouraged to submit a realistic Tender for the services of their selected Stallion.

Shortly after the closing date the winning Tender is awarded to the highest applicant.

To take part in the stallion tender, simply complete the tender form nominating the stallion and tender price before lodging it with the CQTBA by 5pm on Thursday 31 July 2008. All tenders must be GST inclusive.

The funds raised by the Stallion Tender Scheme are used by our association to promote our local Yearling Sale, repaying the Studmasters who donated the services of their studs a Usage Fee, Professional Development and Special Events for members of the CQTBA.

In recent years the Stallion Tender Scheme has proven very successful and we will continue to welcome the support from participating Studmasters and the local, intra and interstate Thoroughbred Breeders.

The 2008 Capricorn Classic Yearling Sales will be conducted at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Sunday 4th May 2008.

Yearlings will be available for inspection after noon on Friday 2nd May and all day on Saturday 3rd May and prior to the Sale which is scheduled to commence at 10:30 am on Sunday.

Double for Misty Downs Stud and CYS

The St Patrick's Day weekend was a highly successful one for Misty Downs Stud and the Capricorn Yearling Sale when two yearlings sold by the stud at the 2005 sale were successful in Central Queensland.

Admiral's Amante (Admiralty-Cameo Lover), knocked down for $5 000, provided the initial leg and in the process more than covered her purchase price. The four year old mare, one of 73 yearlings sold at the 2005 sale, took out the Mackay Turf Club's Class 1 Handicap (1250m) and in the process collected $6 500 in prize money.

The second leg was provided the following day by Lazlo (Fine Action-Kaffryn) who was first in the Rockhampton St Patrick's Day Race Club's Class 4 (1200m). Lazlo, which was sold for $7 000, collected $5 200 in prize money for his first place.

Sunstate Racing Syndicate has listed lot 59 (Admiralty-Almonds) for sale in the 2008 Capricorn Yearling Sale which will be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on 4 May.

Dual wins for Private Agenda

Private Ascot (Private Agenda-Stylish Ascot), another graduate of the 2005 Capricorn Yearling Sale, had a successful final quarter in 2007 when he won two races and $10 000, more than covering his purchase price of $7 000 when he was sold by Steve McCarthy and his wife.

His first victory came on 29 September at Callaghan Park in the Rockhampton Jockey Club's Class 2 Handicap (1300m) when he collected $5 000. The second leg came exactly two months later when he greeted the judge in the Mackay Turf Club's Class 3 Handicap (1500m), again earning $5 000.

Three fillies by Private Agenda are listed for sale by Noralla Stud, Gladfield at the Capricorn Yearling Sale which will be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on 4 May. These are lot 47 out of the Twig Moss mare The English Corner, lot 81 out of the Bluebird mare Coppertone and lot 89 from the Concealed mare Dulce, which is a full sister to Degenda, the impressive winner of the 2007 Capricorn Sales Classic and more than $140 000 in prize money from four wins from 11 starts- a great return for a $10 000 purchase.

Kanoot scores double

Well bred Kanoot (Danehill-Zasu) which has returned to Palm View Stud after a stint at Cornlands Stud sired two winners at the end of 2007 and the start of 2008, both of which were graduates of the Capricorn Yearling Sale. The pair were sold by Palm View, Pink Lily.

The first winner was Clinto Khan (Kanoot-Aleysa Field), which was sold for $15 000 at the 2005 sale and which greeted the judge in Rockhampton Jockey Club's McKenna Maiden Handicap (1000m). Clinto Khan received $5 000 for his win.

The second victory came via Can Go (Kanoot-Sweet Battle), which was sold for $5 500 the year before, when he took out the Gladstone Turf Club's Class 3 Handicap (1194m) and earned $3 900.

Mapperholic's Full Brother Successful

Western Australia has been a happy hunting ground for the Capricorn Yearling Sale, principally through the activities of Commercial Bloodstock, one of Australia's foremost buyers of yearlings.

Mapperhpolic (Mapperley's Star-Capaholic), which was sold at 2000 sale, won seven races including the listed WATC Raconteur Stakes and listed Kalgoorlie Boulder Race Club's Hannan's Handicap as well as finishing second in the Group 3 WATC's Hyperion Stakes and third in the Group 1 WATC Railway Stakes and the Group 3 WATC's Easter Stakes.

On 19 February 2008 his full brother Jay Els Star, which was sold by Palm View Stud for $15 000 at the 2005 Capricorn Yearling Sale, came first in the Albany Race Club's 0-67 Handicap earning $5 740.

Interestingly 17 days earlier Palm View Stud and Mapperley's Star recorded another impressive triumph in WA when Jolanta Star (Mapperley's Star-Jolanta) lead from start to finish to land the listed Challenge Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.

Three fillies by Mapperley's Star's are listed for sale by Palm View Stud, Pink Lily at the 2008 Capricorn Yearling Sale which will be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on 4 May. These are lot 29 out of the Run Straight Run mare Rapid Gold, lot 88 out of the Semipalatinsk mare Double Talk and lot 98 from the General Nediym mare General Interest.

Starry Dancer enjoyed the Christmas break

Starry Dancer (Kendel Star-On with the Dance), which was sold by Palm View Stud as agent for Magus Thoroughbreds at the 2004 Capricorn Yearling Sale for $3 000, registered wins in Rockhampton and Mackay in the December and January.

The initial victory came on 29 December in the Rockhampton Jockey Club's Tooheys New Handicap (1300m), while the second came a month later in the Mackay Turf Club's XXXX Gold Handicap.

As the winner of both races Starry Dancer, which has now taken out three races, earned $13 000 - exceeding her purchase price by $10 000!

Three victories for Hayil

Lyndhurst Stud Farm, Warwick must have been pleased with the success of some of the progeny of the Dayjur stallion Hayil, which has two colts listed for sale at the 2008 Capricorn Yearling Sale which will be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on 4 May. Hayil's great moment of success came in the United Kingdom when he took out the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Hayil Lee Bee (Hayil-Gidgee Gold), which was sold by Lyndhurst Stud for $8 000 at the 2004 sale, provided two of the victories, first in the Dawson Jockey Club's Class 6 Purse (1000m) on 22 September 2007 and later in the Roma Turf Club's Black Toyota Open Handicap (1000m) on 17 November. These two wins increased the filly's prize money tally by $13 650 - a great result for an $8 000 purchase.

Cashupnotick (Hayil-Heading), which was one of two Hayil progeny sold by Alan Alberts, Cawarral for $10 000 at the 2005 sale, took out the Thangool Race Club's Maiden Plate (800m) on 5 April 2008 and in the process collected $3 070.

At this year's sale two progeny of Hayil are on offer. Lot 9, a brown colt out of the Mister C mare Miss Bee will be offered by Bellemere Lodge, and lot 103, a bay or brown colt from the Shedad mare Hermoine, will be offered by Benwerrin Lodge (as agent).
